Writing My Way Around the World
Welcome to my corner of cyberspace. An avid traveler and ambitious freelance writer, I’m on a mission to share my stories with anyone who is interested. Visit my travel blog, Kaleidoscopic Wandering, for travel stories and tips and for a special section devoted to the city of Las Vegas.
Please also take some time to browse through this website. Along the way you’ll discover more about me, have the opportunity browse through my library of clips, and read my rambling blog on everything from politics and the environment to travel and my frustrations with the human race. Please contact me with kudos or suggestions for improvement. I look forward to hearing from writers, editors, publishers, world travelers, storytellers and anyone with oversized ambitions like me.

So many of my trips end up being whirlwind adventures requiring me to cram so much into such a short amount of time. For a long time I’ve hoped to integrate more of a slow travel style into my routine when I hit the road. This past week my husband and I made our reservations with Amtrak to ride the Sunset Limited line from Los Angeles to New Orleans in late March. At 46 hours in duration, this is very much a slow way to travel. Though I rode an overnight train in Norway several years ago, this is my first extended train trip in the United States. It will also be my first visit not only to New Orleans, but to the state of Louisiana. I’m considering it a 2-in-1 kind of trip.
In the meantime, however, I am hard at work at writing and pitching articles from my home base in rainy Las Vegas (seriously, why is it raining in the desert??). This past week on Kaleidoscopic Wandering I took readers to the Mayan ruins in Copan Ruinas, Honduras. These ruins are very much undervisited and underappreciated … and even a non-history buff like me thoroughly enjoyed them. For a more relaxing journey, hop aboard a catamaran in Huatulco, Mexico, which takes visitors past a number of virgin beaches. These are truly a stunning sight. Finally, if you’re looking for something to read on your next vacation, I suggest you pick up One for the Road, a humorous and insightful travel narrative set in Australia.
Speaking of pristine beaches, check out my latest on BootsnAll, which asks the question of why paradise is always defined by beaches … and what it means when we pigeonhole the term as it is currently defined.
Over on Matador Sports, things are heating up just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics, including the incredible security measures that have been put into place. If you’re looking for something even more challenging, set your sights on the Yukon Quest, which took off from Fairbanks, Alaska, on Saturday.
A happy week to you all. Stay warm!
